I made a lot of quick breads over the holidays. From Cinnamon Raisin Applesauce Bread to Almond Joy Coconut Bread, these dessert loaves made for fantastic gifts. I loved making something fast for guests whenever they dropped by. Additionally, it was a breeze to wrap quick breads for my husband’s coworkers.
And with all the baking I did, I realized I relied heavily on baking powder and baking soda. Some recipes required both, while others required one or the other. I vaguely knew that you could substitute baking powder or baking soda in bread. However, I had no idea the best technique for doing so.
I figured if I had questions about these key ingredients, then so would my readers. This week, I did a little research on baking soda and baking powder and their effects in bread. Now you can benefit from my hard work and have all that information in one place.
Honestly, the difference between using baking powder or baking soda has always escaped me until now. Whenever I made cookies, cakes, or similar baked goods, I trusted the recipe to know which ingredient to use.
But now that I’m making my own recipes, I decided it was better to have an understanding about how they worked rather than guessing. I’m so glad I took the time to learn, as I’ve improved a few of my recipes as a result.
Now you can save time by going to my bread blog and reading all about what I learned in my baking powder or baking soda post. In my post, I explore each ingredient, the best way to substitute one for the other, and which circumstances you’d use both. I also briefly touch on why you don’t normally combine baking soda, baking powder, and yeast in the same recipe.
I love learning. Whenever I learn something new, I get excited and want to share what I learned with everyone else. If you have more questions about baking powder or baking soda, or a similar topic, let me know in the comment section. I’ll do my best to answer – and if I can’t answer right away, I’ll study some more to help you out.
If you don’t feel comfortable posting your question in the comment section, feel free to leave me a message via my contact me page. I regularly check my site emails, and I’ll get back with you as soon as I am able.
