Hello, 2022 – How Are You?

It’s already a new year? Isn’t that crazy?

I feel like 2021 flew by, and now I’m halfway through January of 2022 without knowing what I’ll do next. Maybe I should just start by saying hello, 2022.

Here’s What Happened

I suppose I should give all you good people an update as to what’s been going on lately, so here’s my year in review. Once we get the big things out of the way, we can say hello, 2022 with a clear mind and a clean slate.

Major Events

Last year brought quite a few major events that changed me:

I Got Vaccinated for Covid. I couldn’t wait for a vaccine for Covid, and I felt relieved when one finally became available. But now that Omicron is out, I’m going to need a booster. Here’s hoping it’s enough to keep the virus at bay.

I Had a Cancer Scare. I had an CTA scan to figure out what was causing my pulsatile tinnitus. Turns out I have a low-riding jugular bulb. But after the scan, the doctor pointed out an especially large lymph node in my neck. The enlarged node was potentially cancerous. I took several tests, and fortunately, I was cancer free (though I’m going in for another check-up in March, just in case).

My Sister-in-Law Stayed a While. My sister-in-law moved across states, so she dropped in and stayed in our guest room for a while.

I Bought a Volt. Our Honda Odyssey was giving us grief with its constant repairs. So we decided to trade it in at the end of the year and buy a Chevrolet Volt. I love that it’s an electric hybrid, but it is a bit smaller than the van, so space is a bit of an issue.

Of course, lots of smaller life events happened throughout the year, but I thought the ones above were big enough to share.

New Things I Tried

I love looking back and seeing how I grew over the last year. Part of 2021’s shine was trying a few new things. When I say hello, 2022, I hope the new year has just as many exciting things to try as the old one.

I Tried a DSLR Camera. My goodness. Why did I wait so long to get a decent camera? I am in love with my EOS rebel* and am excited to take more pictures. You can read more about my initial camera experience here.

I Tried Wood Burning. Wood burning was a fun way to shake up my avocado jewelry making experience. If you’re interested, you can find a couple items in my shop with some wood burnt patterns in them.

I Tried Carving Rings. I broke quite a few bits of wood trying to carve a ring, but I did manage to make one ring from start to finish. Hopefully with time, more rings will appear in my shop this year.

Of course, I can’t possibly write about everything that happened in 2021. If you want to know more, feel free to leave a comment below.

What Will Happen Next?

Now that 2021 is over, I’m ready to say hello, 2022 with vigor and enthusiasm. I’m hoping it’s a promising new year, and not a repeat of 2020 (twenty, twenty, too – get it?). Here are my plans thus far:

I’m Going to Make Macarons. I got a lovely macaron making kit for Christmas, and I am excited to start making some fancy cookies. I’ve only tasted macarons once, but wow, they left an impression. I’m ready to add new recipes to my baking repertoire.

I’m Going to Make Preschool Printables. With Covid running rampant and lots of parents schooling their kids at home or participating in distance learning, I thought it would be fun to make some free preschool printables. My daughter is almost in kindergarten, and she’s tested a few of my practice sheets – they’re kid approved so far!

I’m Going to Make an eBook. I’ve made a lot of fun recipes in the last few years, and I’m hoping to put them altogether in an ebook. It might take me a while to finish this goal, but I’m plugging away at it.

Of course, a few things are going to stay the same year after year. I’m still going to bake and I’m still going to read lots of books and draw and take pictures.

But what are your plans for the new year? Did 2021 treat you right? Let me know in the comments below.
