How to Make Almond Joy Cookie Jars

It’s back, everyone! It’s finally back. Way back in the early days of my website, I made Almond Joy Cookie Jars. My site crashed, and I lost the original recipe and the scaled down version of the recipe.

Well, I have since found the original recipe, and after my success with the chocolate chip oatmeal cookie jars, I figured it was time to recreate one of my all-time favorite posts.

Now whenever I feel like making the ultimate cookies, I can just dump in a jar of pre-made Almond Joy Cookie Jar mix, stir some butter, egg, and vanilla, and I soon have a quick treat without the mess or the fuss.

I did have to make a few adjustments when I scaled down my recipe, however. I wanted a mix that would be as straightforward and simple as possible. Furthermore, I needed to scale the recipe so it would fit in a quart-sized mason jar. As a result, this scaled down jar version isn’t an exact replica of the original almond joy cookie.

Fortunately, my Almond Joy Cookie Jars have all the same almond joy love but slightly different proportions that make it easier to prepare in advance. Feel free to put together large batches of jars and give them away (or bake them) at your convenience.

What You’ll Need

Almond joy cookie jars are a breeze to make, but you do need a few items on hand:

If you’re feeling extra festive, you’ll want to have ribbon, twine, buttons, tags, or similar items to decorate the outside of the mason jar.

Note: as an Amazon associate, I do earn a small commission on qualified purchases. However, you don’t have to buy these jars from Amazon. I’ve found them readily available at most grocery stores, including Smith’s, Target, and Walmart.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients for Cookie Jar

  • 156 Grams All-Purpose Flour (1 1/3 cup)
  • 4 Grams Baking Powder (1 Teaspoon)
  • 10 Grams Baking Soda (1 Teaspoon)
  • 1.75 Grams Salt (1/4 Teaspoon)
  • 106 Grams Brown Sugar (1/2 Cup)
  • 100 Grams White Granulated Sugar (1/2 Cup)
  • 70 Grams Slivered Almonds (3/4 Cup)
  • 95 Grams Sweetened Coconut Flakes (3/4 Cup)
  • 85 Grams Milk Chocolate Chips (1/2 Cup)

Wet Ingredients to Mix in Later

  • 113 Grams Butter, Softened (1 Stick – 8 Tablespoons)
  • 4 Grams Vanilla Extract (1 Teaspoon)
  • 1 Large Egg

Instructions

To Make the Cookie Jar

  • Use the funnel to pour the flour into the quart-sized mason jar.* Gently knock down and press the flour with a spoon or spatula to create the first layer.
  • Continue adding the dry ingredients layer by layer as they are listed in the recipe. Gently press each ingredient as they are added to the jar to ensure they all fit.
  • Seal the jar with the lid. Decorate with ribbon, tags, or twine according to personal preference.

To Make the Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit (176° Celsius).
  • In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to cream together the softened butter, vanilla extract, and egg.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, pour the ingredients from the jar and stir them thoroughly.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients and mix until well incorporated.
  • Use a cookie scoop to make 1 1/2 tablespoon-sized cookie balls on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Be sure to leave room between each cookie to account for expansion.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are slightly browned. Remove from the oven and let cool on the pan for a few minutes before serving. *

Notes

*My funnel was too small – I found that if I folded a paper towel into a general funnel shape that I was able to pour the ingredients in the jar without a fuss.
*These cookies are easy to over bake. The middles will look doughy and soft when you pull them from the oven. Just let the residual heat from the pan do the rest of the cooking for you.

Have Fun!

I love making cookie mix jars. They’re easy to put together, and they’re even easier to bake later. They’re fast and without the fuss, and they’re easy to customize and decorate. You can even get your kids involved with the jar decorating for a personal touch.
