I’ve finally done it.
I bought a DSLR camera.
I have wanted a legit camera with interchangeable lenses since I was in high school. I didn’t have a lot of spending money growing up, and the most I could buy was a simple point and shoot right out of college.
And money has been tight for my little family for a while. We’ve had enough to meet our needs, but a real camera has always been just slightly out of reach.
But with the latest round of stimulus checks, we can just barely afford to get me one – and I’m absolutely thrilled.
I did some research and decided that a Canon EOS Rebel T7 would be a good camera to start with. Although there are more expensive cameras out there, this little two-lens bundle was what I could afford, and it came highly rated by other users.
As soon as it arrived, I couldn’t wait to crack open the box and get started.
It’s so pretty!
But as soon as I charged the battery and turned it on, I realized that I was a bit out of my depth here. I thought I was a decent photography with my phone and my little clip-on lens. But really, I have no idea what to do with a DSLR camera. It has so many settings and so many options and I don’t know what to do with any of them.
I’m not going to let my initial confusion deter me though. With a little Googling, I found several free online photography courses, and I think I’ll start with this one from Alison.com, An Introduction to Digital Photography. It’s going to take me a few hours to complete the course, spread out over the next few days.
I don’t know if it will be enough to really get me comfortable using my camera. But I have a starting point, and I’m thrilled to see where this photography adventure takes me.
