I make a lot of sourdough bread for my bread blog, Breadbythehour.com. However, even I need a break from bread every once in a while.
Whenever I have a lot of sourdough starter discard, I make waffles for my family. This sourdough discard waffle recipe is both tasty and tangy. Because of the delightful sourdough flavor, I prefer to pair these waffles with a tart berry syrup and whipped cream (though it tastes great with traditional maple syrup as well).
I love making sourdough discard waffles, especially when topped with a fruit syrup. But what do you think? Do you prefer more traditional waffles with maple syrup? Or do you have other favorite toppings that compliment the sourdough flavor even better? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments below!

Wonderful, soft, yummy waffles!
Thank you so much!
Really tasty and wouldn't change a thing! 4 grandkids (9-13 years old) gobbled them all up and asked for seconds. Had to make another batch for my husband and me.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing.
Loved it. Light and fluffy. Instead of milk I used heavy whipping cream. My husband said my kitchen smelled like a breakfast diner and they were the best waffles he'd ever had.
Oh that sounds absolutely lovely! I never thought about using whipping cream - I'll have to try it next time. Thank you.
Easy and delicious. Thanks for the recipe.
Wonderful! Thank you so much and you are welcome, too.
Wonderful! Came out delish . I added wild blueberries. Freezing a made batch . Thank you
