Gotta Love That Pink Hair

In case you don’t follow my drawing Instagram (@jennibeedoodles), I thought I’d share my latest post here with you.

I’m feeling pretty proud of this particular piece. I know it’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I feel like I’m getting closer to a drawing style that I really love doing, though it seems my style fluctuates from drawing to drawing.

This picture started out as a sketch of a model I found on Pinterest. I liked her hair and the tilt of her chin and nose, so I tried to capture that in the beginning. But then I sort of just ran with it. I changed the color. I changed the lighting and the expression. I gave her a little tattoo, which is really just my personal signature that I’m trying to incorporate more naturally into my art.

After I finished making all my changes, I remembered that I had drawn another pink haired girl a while ago. I went and found her and I was a blown away by how much things have changed since I started drawing.

There’s something kind of sweet and simple and charming about my old art. The shading is basic and the shapes and proportions aren’t quite right. But I really enjoy comparing my old art to my new art so I can see how far I’ve come. It’s only been about 2 years since I first got my iPad, and I’m excited to see where I’ll be in the next few years.
